Participants carrying placards at an awareness walk against trafficking and migrant smuggling

Our work

The whole journey matters.

From the decision to move to life abroad, return and belonging, migration connects people to systems. Our work connects the organisations that understand those systems.

Our priorities

Eight connected areas of work

Each priority brings together a different part of the alliance — protection expertise, legal services, research, community practice — around the same journey.

Safe and regular migration

People need reliable information and realistic access to regular pathways. C-SAM brings community experience into discussions on recruitment, preparation and the barriers that make those pathways difficult to use.

Connect information, opportunity and protection.

Protection, trafficking and smuggling

Trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants are distinct issues. People affected may need different legal and protection responses. We connect expertise on rights, safeguarding, access to justice and appropriate referral, with attention to safety and informed choice.

Keep rights and the person at the centre.

Return and reintegration

Coming home can involve debt, disrupted livelihoods and difficult social adjustments. Member learning can help connect economic opportunities, psychosocial support, family relationships and local services.

Look beyond arrival to lasting belonging.

Labour mobility and migrant rights

Fair recruitment, understandable contracts, decent work and access to remedy matter throughout a worker’s journey. C-SAM creates space for labour, legal and community perspectives to inform policy and practice.

Make the conditions of work part of the conversation.

Climate mobility and displacement

Climate pressures and disasters affect people’s ability to move, stay and rebuild. We bring local experience into discussions on displacement, protection, adaptation and recovery, recognising that households face different choices and constraints.

Connect mobility with resilience and local realities.

Gender, youth and inclusion

Women, young people, persons with disabilities, minorities and marginalised communities experience different barriers. Their participation and priorities belong across the Alliance’s work, from representation to research and service coordination.

Design participation around who is missing.

Research and evidence

Member experience is a valuable starting point, but credible evidence also needs careful methods, consent and honest limits. C-SAM supports research collaboration, evidence synthesis and learning across provinces and disciplines.

Make lived realities visible without exposing people.

Policy and advocacy

C-SAM brings consolidated civil society perspectives to dialogue with government, parliamentarians and other institutions. Collective positions pass through the Alliance’s governance processes and connect policy proposals to implementation realities.

Turn shared learning into considered recommendations.

Work with us

From priorities to shared work

Working Groups connect these priorities to member expertise. Annual plans set the activities, responsibilities and resources.

Research institutions, technical experts and public bodies can engage around a defined question or shared objective.
